What’s a room refresher, you ask? A room refresher is my definition of a space that you’ve already decorated but would like to add that extra “oomph” or pop of color. This usually happens a couple years after you’ve decorated, you’re tired of the old décor, and you’re ready for a freshly updated new space without purchasing everything all over again. You’d be surprised, there are so many little things that you can do to a room that can totally change the appearance. To name a few, painting an accent wall, updating window treatments, getting a new area rug, adding live plants or even something as small as buying new throw pillows.
If you’ve assessed your home décor and realized, “Omg, I think I need a room refresher STAT!” No worries, here are my three easy steps to creating a new space without breaking the bank.
#1 Make a Game Plan. Look around your space and make a mental note of everything that you love about your room at its current state. What would you like to change? Pick a color that you would like to accent your current color scheme with. If you don’t know what color to choose, use the color wheel and choose the color opposite of what your dominant color is in your space. Another easy way to find an accent color is to choose a color from your largest piece of artwork or area rug. Next, find inspiration photos to get your décor style. My favorite place to find inspo? You guessed it, Pinterest! There’s a slew of décor ideas on Pinterest that will help you narrow down on accent colors, design styles and furniture to help you with the perfect room refresh.
# 2 Create a Realistic Budget. What are you willing to spend? Take a step back and look at what pieces would really make an impact on your space. Focus on those pieces and research the best prices you can get and budget out the remainder of your list accordingly. This is where I use the internet to my advantage. I google shop for items to find the best price and always, always, always check competitor stores to see what deals I can get. Is there free shipping? Are there any sales going on? Is there a store membership that gives me discounts and incentives to add to my purchase? Also, make sure to check Amazon. It’s a great place to find all sorts of décor and you can read the customer ratings to ensure that you are getting a quality piece.
#3 Accents Worth Your While. Once you’ve figured out what furniture and pieces to spend the most on, the remainder of your budget should go to the small décor accent pieces. You don’t have to shop at the fancy high end décor stores to obtain that upscale feel to your room. You can find really nice, one-of-a-kind décor in the home goods section at stores like Ross, Marshalls & TJ Maxx. The perk to shopping at these stores? Usually you can find great accents, pillows, candles, artwork and faux greenery for uber cheap!! Have something in particular that you are looking for, like an ottoman pouf? Wayfair is another online store that you can find pretty much anything you need and has a broad range of products and pricing that can fit anyone’s budget. I love Wayfair for so many reasons but mainly for their amazing customer service, quick shipping and how they are big on customer ratings! Can you tell I’m all about reading reviews?? It helps to know I’m getting good stuff!!
